Unleashing Creativity: Teaching Web Development Basics
Gaining a foundational understanding of web development is becoming just as important for students as traditional education in this age of digital innovation. Students’ creativity is stimulated and they are prepared for a world in which having an online presence is crucial by being introduced to HTML, CSS, and fundamental web design concepts.

Here are some methods teachers can use:
Project-Based Learning: Plan experiential learning opportunities that walk students through building a simple website. Introduce CSS for styling gradually after starting with basic HTML structures.
Platform: Use online platforms like CodePen, Glitch, or Repl.it to provide a real-time coding environment. These platforms allow students to see instant visual results as they code.
Interactive Tutorials: Introduce interactive tutorials that guide students through the basics of HTML and CSS. Platforms like Codecademy or freeCodeCamp offer step-by-step lessons with immediate feedback.
Platform: Codecademy, freeCodeCamp, and Khan Academy are excellent platforms for interactive tutorials, allowing students to learn at their own pace.
Collaborative Coding: Encourage your students to collaborate on projects during collaborative coding sessions. This encourages collaboration and facilitates peer learning among students.
Platform: Utilize version control systems like GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. These platforms enable students to collaborate on code, manage versions, and receive feedback from peers and teachers.
Web Development Bootcamps: Introduce mini “BOOTCAMP” sessions where students immerse themselves in intensive, focused learning for a short period. Cover key HTML and CSS concepts during these sessions.
Platform: Platforms like Udacity, Coursera, or edX offer short-term courses and bootcamps on web development that can be adapted for classroom use.
Showcasing Web Design Principles: Teach not just the coding but also the principles of good web design. Discuss topics like user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design.

While searching online, I found that github has specific resources that are aimed towards teachers. After looking more into these resources, I think it would be useful for me as a future teacher since Github Classroom helps with giving students feedback and grading their work. This, I feel, is especially important in this day and age where technology is becoming more and more prominent and when the current situation in the world necessitates online learning. There are also other helpful tools in the GitHub Teacher Toolbox which I can use in order to create different online activities for my students to accomplish. Especially in the field of maths, it's important to be able to visualize the lesson so that it won't seem as unfamiliar to the students, which I think the resources in the toolbox could help with.

GitHub launches new tools for teachers, including autograding
GitHub today announced new features for GitHub Classroom, its collection of tools for helping computer science teachers assign and evaluate coding exercises, as well as a new set of free tools for teachers.
The first of these is autograding, which does exactly what the name promises. Teachers can now add tests to their workflows that automatically test assignments and grade them accordingly. These tests then run automatically on every student repository. More importantly, though, teachers can also provide specific feedback with in-line feedback and automatic pull requests.
Autograding, of course, will save teachers quite a bit of time. At the same time, GitHub is also launching the Teacher Toolbox, a set of free tools for teachers that includes access to a number of development tools, tutorials, domain names and more. Among these free services are .TECH domain names, access to BrowserStack for on-device testing and the Termius SSH client. They also get free access to tools from Arduino.
In total, there are currently 35 tools and services available through the toolbox. It’s worth noting that these tools are mostly different from those available in the GitHub Student Developer Pack, which also offers free and discounted access to services like Bitnami, Figure Eight, Namecheap and others (including, of course, Github itself).

Podcast460: UCO and OCCC Concurrent Classes, GitHub in CompSci, and Elementary Coding Lessons
Welcome to episode 460 of Moving at the Speed of Creativity by Wesley Fryer, from March 13, 2018. This podcast features a series of three recent interviews, and opens with a recommendation to try the newly updated Anchor.fm website and Anchor mobile app for podcast creation and publishing. The first interview is with high school senior Sarah Fryer, who shares her experiences and lessons learned taking concurrent classes from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) as a student in Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS). Sarah took two classes from UCO in fall 2017, including one online course and one face-to-face course at the UCO campus in downtown Oklahoma City. This spring Sarah is taking two concurrent classes from OCCC, again one online and another face-to-face. The second interview is with Eric Ebert (@biggestmeow), the high school computer science teacher at Casady School. Eric shares a little about the growth of the computer science program at Casady, and how he has been using GitHub and GitHub classroom to help his students manage their coding projects. Eric also shared how he’s used audio podcasts created with Garageband and SoundCloud to encourage student reflection during and at the conclusion of coding projects. The third interview is with Shelly Fryer (@sfryer), a 3rd grade teacher at Casady School who has been integrating coding into her language arts lessons and Maker Studio time using the iPad app PBSkids Scratch Junior. Shelly taught an after-school class for 3rd and 4th graders in fall 2017 on coding with PBSkids Scratch Junior, teaching students how to create animations, tell stories, and create simple games. In spring 2018, Shelly has taught the same after-school class on PBSkids Scratch Junior for first and second graders. She has also co-led an after-school coding class using Scratch software for third and fourth graders. She shares stories and lessons learned from these coding classes, and also highlights her recent experiences at a Code.org workshop in San Antonio as one of three coding Ambassadors from Oklahoma.
